Yang & Yin: Yoga Teacher Training
200 Hour Certification

Yang & Yin is a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training with a unique focus on energetic balance by combining teachings of Vinyasa and Power Yoga with Yin and Restorative Yoga. This training is a blend of modern movement and science with tradition and spirituality. Through embrace of the polarities of the practice, and of the human experience as a whole, we create a real sense of home in the body, and yoga then isn’t simply what we are doing, but who we are being.

This experience will be a dance between the energy of “effort” (yang) and “encounter” (yin), or doing and being. It’s a devotional journey into an ancient practice, and ultimately the self, where you will learn to honor both light and shadow. Yang & Yin is a container for the infusion of your own inner knowing and wisdom, with the philosophy and teachings of an old and ever-evolving practice. We are here to create community leaders who are embodied and revolutionary, who can hold and teach their own truth while simultaneously honoring the truth of each person they encounter. We believe yoga invites us into presence and communion with all that is, and this will be your initiatory journey into creating that kind of sacred space for yourself, and for others.

You will be certified to teach:
~Vinyasa Yoga
~Yin Yoga
~Restorative Yoga
~Meditation and Pranayama
~The Rest Movement: A full weekend module led by Rae Helsel, inspired by 5 Element Theory, where you will learn the art of combining practices of Qi Gong, power yoga, vinyasa and restorative yoga. This practice is based on the principles of interval training- increases heart rate variability, facilitates vagal tone, encourages homeostasis within the body, and creates resilience within your autonomic nervous system.

You will also experience/learn:
~Qi-Gong
~5 Element Theory
~Touch
~Subconscious re-programming

Our program is a mixture of in-person experiences at 4th and Market in Downtown Zanesville, Ohio, live calls on Zoom and self-guided recorded modules.

This training prepares people to teach full-length asana, or mat-focused, classes, but it’s also a beautiful supplemental training for anyone already working in the healthcare or wellness industry. Many people such as school teachers, coaches, nurses, counselors/social workers, massage therapists, and physical therapists have found great value in incorporating the teachings from this training into their work. There are no pre-requisites to sign up for this training, but we do recommend you attend some studio classes/virtual sessions prior to the training to prepare your body and mind. Some of our students desire to teach following the training, and some simply want to deepen their own personal practice and understanding of Yoga. A 200-Hour training is one of the most beautiful and transformational investments you can make on yourself, it’s truly life-changing.

Registration is open through January 2nd, 2026. You will have through graduation in August 2026 to complete the hours required for the 200 Hour Certification. Prolonged access to the trainers’ time and program after the journey will be an additional cost.

Meet the Founder and Lead Trainer:

Rachel Matz

Rachel is co-owner of 4th and Market with her husband Dakota.  She’s an E-RYT 500 hour instructor and completed her training over a two year period with Awakened Life School of Yoga, traveling to Bali twice and Costa Rica from 2014-2016. She was originally trained in Vinyasa, Restorative yoga, Yoga Nidra and Shamata meditation, and now also teaches Yin yoga and various forms of breath and meditation. Rachel has over 10 years and 2,000 hours of teaching experience.

Rachel played basketball at Ashland University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Religion, and soon after completed schooling to receive her License in Massage Therapy. Her yoga teaching often mixes components of spirituality and yoga philosophy with physically challenging and structurally intelligent flows. And you can always count on an invigorating array of music to flow with! She believes that yoga begins on the mat, and eventually, with consistency and practice, carries into every aspect of life. The deeper the connections and ties between the body, the mind and the heart, the more passionate, peaceful and purpose-driven life.

She’s a published author of the Amazon best-seller, I Am Worthy: Remembrance & Reclamation, offers embodiment and empowerment coaching for women, and also hosts Yoga Retreats each year all across the world, called ROOTED Retreats. Her and her sister, Melanie Schwieterman, host a podcast together called What Feels Most True, which can be found on all podcast platforms.
