RACHEL MATZ INSTRUCTOR BIO

Rachel is co-owner of 4th and Market with her husband Dakota.  She’s an RYT 500 hour instructor and completed her training over a two year period with Awakened Life School of Yoga, traveling to Bali twice and Costa Rica from 2014-2016.

Rachel played basketball at Ashland University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Religion, and soon after completed schooling to receive her License in Massage Therapy. Her yoga teaching often mixes components of spirituality and yoga philosophy with physically challenging and structurally intelligent flows. And you can always count on an invigorating array of music to flow with! She believes that yoga begins on the mat, and eventually, with consistency and practice, carries into every aspect of life. The deeper the connections and ties between the body, the mind and the heart, the more passionate, peaceful and purpose-driven life. Her Fit Lab classes are often high intensity workouts designed to challenge the mind-body connection, test limitations, increase mobility, and to build strength in common weaker areas of the body such as the hips, hammies, shoulders and back.

When she’s not teaching or practicing yoga, she loves to do anything outdoors  with her husband and two Siberian huskies, Atlas and Athena. Rachel also LOVES to travel…don’t hesitate to ask her about her latest adventures!

She hosts ROOTED Yoga Retreats each year at varying locations around the world, and you can find information on those retreats here (new link) and leads 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings at 4th and Market- Info on our YTT’s here: (new link)

Jody Dean INSTRUCTOR BIO

Jody Dean, RYT 200 and Licensed Physical Therapist has called Zanesville home since 2012. She completed her yoga teacher training in her hometown of Wooster, Ohio at Flex Yoga Wooster in 2018. As a mother of 5, yoga became her escape and balance. Yoga was a way for Jody to restore balance, strength, and flexibility to her body after years of running, and peace to her mind after years of motherhood and organized chaos. She has learned through yoga to give herself permission to push, rest or change directions as her mind and body need. She is excited to share the strength, peace, and balance yoga can provide for all. In what’s left of her free time, Jody enjoys traveling, reading, and learning new things.

Rachel Bentley INSTRUCTOR BIO

Rachel Bentley is a certified children’s yoga instructor and was trained by Shana Meyerson of mini yogis.  She also completed her 200 Hour adult Yoga Teacher Training through Grass Roots in 2020/21. Rachel works full time as a Preschool Intervention Specialist in the Muskingum County area.  She started her personal yoga journey four years ago, and became interested in children’s yoga after reading research articles on the benefits of yoga for children with special needs. After becoming certified, Rachel realized that her education background and children’s yoga training would compliment one another in a special way.  She is thrilled to be able to offer children’s yoga classes, and now adult classes too, at 4th and Market.

Rachel has three fur babies at home, and a beautiful daughter named Cora.  In addition to her children’s yoga training, Rachel is also a certified POUND Pro.  She enjoys reading, being with friends and family, and spending as much time outside on her back porch as Ohio’s weather allows.

Tavian Butts INSTRUCTOR BIO

Tavian is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and graduated from Zanesville High School in 2016. He has an associates degree in Sports and Fitness Science from Zane State College. He played football and track in high school and also went to Ohio Dominican for football and track for a semester before returning home. During his free time he enjoys playing video games, watching football, UFC fights, and anime.

Tavian has a profound personal story of wellness and weight loss, which has poured strength and happiness into every aspect of his life. When he was 17 years old he weighed 280 pounds, and struggled with social anxiety and depression. He often felt uncomfortable around new people, and lacked self-confidence. As he began to lose weight and gain strength in the gym, he also felt empowered to build a foundation of comfort and confidence outside of the gym in who was as a man. He believes that his health and wellness journey directly impacted who he was becoming as a person, and still continues to do so now. His desire is to build that same self-confidence in his clients, and to use the foundation of exercise and strength in the gym to help heal battles with anxiety and depression. The exercise and body composition gains, he believes, are simply a bonus to feeling better about life in general.

Tavian works with all ages and populations, and specializes in weight loss, toning, and building strength. Zanesville has always been his home, and being able to create a career doing something he loves in his hometown is a dream come true.

Ashley Long instructor bio

Ashley completed her 200 Hour Teacher Training right here at 4th and Market. Her initial intention with the training was to deepen her own practice. However, she came to realize that as a teacher you never stop learning from your students. This realization is what lead to her desire to teach.

She started practicing yoga in 2017 and developed a profound passion for the practice. Her passion for the study of movement in the body started 10+ years before that when she began practicing in the field of Physical Therapy. She now has her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy and continues to blend her experience in both fields to create intentional and well-rounded yoga practices for her students. She loves sharing this practice of self discovery with the community.

When she is not in the studio teaching or working as a Physical Therapist, she’s spending most of her time with her family including her fiancé and two dogs.

ERIN CURRY INSTRUCTOR BIO

Erin, RYT 200, completed her Yoga Teacher Training at 4th and Market. When Erin had her first baby, she struggled with postpartum depression and found yoga during that tough time. Yoga helped balance her life, find rest, and strengthen her body and mind. She was able to find true joy and learn about the importance of making time for herself. She is so excited to share rest and healing through yoga with you as well!

Erin specializes in Restorative yoga, but can be found teaching other classes on occasion as well. In a Restorative yoga class you will hold poses from 3 to 10 minutes and learn to slow down the body by using breath as you listen to gentle music in a dim, often candle-lit room. We use lots of props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks to allow your muscles to deeply relax and feel totally supported.

If you have breath in your lungs, Restorative yoga is for you! The weight of the world can often be too much to bear. Restorative yoga can help balance your nervous system, and help you handle the stress that comes with life in a healthy way. When you take time to rest, that is when true healing takes place!

In her free time, Erin makes handmade bath and body products and sells them on Etsy via Soap Space: HERE ! She also loves to read, play with her dogs, and spend time with her daughter and husband.

DELANEY ZIMMERMAN INSTRUCTOR BIO

Delaney was born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio, and recently moved home to begin the next stages of her life. She was a three-sport athlete growing up, and went on to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Youngstown State University. For two years she worked in the Kinesiology Lab on campus and spent the final semester as an intern under the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Austintown Local School District.

A note from Delaney:

“During my freshman year I realized very quickly that I knew very little about fitness outside of being a high school athlete. This sent me down a path of severe self-doubt and body image issues because I constantly told myself I didn’t “look” like an exercise science student. I was beginning to burn out because I wasn’t reaching my desired results despite having all of this knowledge at my fingertips. Getting into the gym felt like a chore and that’s when I switched gears and began focusing on the journey, and not simply the end result. Fitness isn’t one size fits all because it’s made for everyone. As a result I fell in love with the process and the hard work. That’s what made it fun and that’s what makes it sustainable. Now I want to help those who have found themselves in the same place of stagnancy as I did. I am proud of this opportunity to share my knowledge and passion with our community.”
